A few things to know
It is required to have the 3 items listed below to become a member:
- You must register with the FAA,
- Pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test (TRUST),
- Be a current member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).
1. Register with the FAA.
It is required by law that all of our members register with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Registration is $5 and your I.D. number is valid for 3 years. You can register with the FAA on their website at https://registermyuas.faa.gov. Civil and criminal penalties do apply if you fly without an FAA I.D.
2. Take the TRUST test.
The law requires that all recreational flyers pass an aeronautical knowledge and safety test and provide proof of passage if asked by law enforcement or FAA personnel. The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) was developed to meet this requirement.
3. Become an AMA Member.
You must be a current year member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).
Free State is an AMA Chartered flying location and has liability insurance through the AMA. As such, and in accordance to our agreement with the landowner, we require our members to also be AMA members for liability purposes. This insurance protects you, our members, visitors, and our flying location.
You’ll be required to give us your AMA number in order to apply. Becoming an AMA member is quick and easy online.
